Among the young men recruited to the Enderun, Silâhtarlar gradually grew up and rose to this position.
They returned to Istanbul after 189 years: The squire of Topkapı Palace is back on duty. Their duties included carrying the sultan’s weapon, protecting his other weapons and other precious jewels and belongings, and participating in the sultan’s excursions.
After the 17th century, there were Silahdars who had the opportunity to rise to the position of grand vizier.
